North Leeds Greenway Walks

Introducing the North Leeds Greenway Walking Group

Are you wanting to get more active? Then why not join the newly formed North Leeds Greenway Walking Group. Friends of Allerton Grange Fields has just launched the new walking group as part of the national Walking for Health initiative which is supported by the Ramblers and Macmillian Cancer Support. Walking for Health is England’s largest network of health walks with hundreds of active schemes, helping people across the country lead a more active lifestyle.

In England, half of all adults are not active enough to benefit their health. This means that they are at risk of developing serious illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

“We are delighted to work with Walking for Health to launch the North Leeds Greenway walking group” said Bhupinder Dev, Chair of Friends of Allerton Grange Fields “walking is a great way to not only improve your physical and mental health but also a great way to explore our parks and greenspaces in north Leeds whilst getting to know new people in the local area”.

Sarah Jane Pickering, regional development officer for Walking for Health said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the Friends of Allerton Grange Fields and support them in setting up the North Leeds Greenway Walking Group. I’m sure the group will be a great success and I look forward to working with them in the future and meeting all the new walkers.

For general good health doctors recommend that adults should do moderate intensity physical activity, like brisk walking for at least 150 minutes a week or 30 minutes a day, five days a week. A great way to start , when you haven’t been active for a while is to build up activity gradually and try to include some in your everyday live.”

North Leeds Greenway Walking Group will include a series of FREE short walks between parks and greenspace in north Leeds. They stake place on the SEcond Saturday of each month (meet at Talbot Avenue entrance to Allerton Grange Fields at 9:30am)

The 2.5mile Allerton Grange Fields to Canal Gardens Circular Walk will be start at 9:30am from Allerton Grange Fields which will include a rest stop at Tropical World Café at Canal Gardens. To register your interest in the walking group please click on the link below
