Community Orchard

New community orchard at the heart of north Leeds

Friends of Allerton Grange Fields are working with the Roundhay Environmental Action Project (REAP) Gardening Group to create a community orchard at the six acre Allerton Grange Fields off Talbot Avenue in Roundhay.

The community orchard is a key project for the Friends in its emerging ten year Greenspace Management Plan for Allerton Grange Fields which is being developed with Leeds City Councils Parks & Countryside service. The planting of fruit trees which include apples, pears and plums will help to encourage healthy eating and provide local people with an opportunity to ‘pick your own’ fruit as well as support a diverse range of wildlife at Allerton Grange Fields.

A community orchard planting day was held on Saturday 7 December 2013 when five new fruit trees were planted (Discovery Apple, Lord Lambourne Apple, Sunset Apple, Conference Pear, Marjorie Seedlings Plum).

Throughout February 2015 a number of Tree Planting Mornings were held to plant the following additional fruit trees (Apple Blenheim Orange Pippin, Apple Fiesta, Pear Concorde, Pear Conference and Marjorie Seedlings Plum).
